Since boots hit the ground on January 27th last, NBI have made significant early progress on this major nationwide State telecommunications infrastructure project.
We are designing, building and operating the new high-speed fibre network in a mapped ‘rollout area’ – where commercial operators have not indicated that they will be providing such services. This map is owned and managed by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) and includes 544,000 premises and will benefit over one million people.
Over 136,000 premises have been surveyed year to date and network survey design for the new high speed fibre broadband network is well underway. There over 800 people currently working on the NBP nationwide, including all our contractors.
- Build works for the network are underway in parts of Cork, Cavan, Limerick and Galway. The first trial homes have been connected – in a townland outside Carrigaline in county Cork, with speeds of over 500MB. In early 2021 build works will commence in parts of Roscommon, Wexford, Tralee, Mullingar and Wicklow.
- By end January next, NBI plan to have passed almost 8,000 premises with the fibre network, who will be able to order a service from the network off local and national retail providers in early 2021. We will provide further information on this as the date draws nearer. See further rollout details here: /rollout-plan/
- NBI will be working in parts of every country next year and by end 2022, almost 40% of 537K premises in the roll-out area will be passed with the network.
