Series of speakers celebrates IWD 2023 as NBI announce membership of The 30% Club
March 8th marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a United Nations designated occasion to acknowledge and honour the achievements of women across all aspects of society, from business to culture to politics. This year’s IWD theme is #EmbraceEquity, emphasising the need to understand the difference between equity and equality.
Today, to celebrate IWD, National Broadband Ireland hosted an event at its headquarters in Citywest, Dublin comprising a programme of speakers, including Áine Kerr, a technology / digital entrepreneur and a women’s leadership advocate. Fast becoming one of the most recognised speakers in this area, Áine believes change can only happen collectively, and that men play as much of a part in change happening as women.
The event also featured founder of The Good Glow and Podcaster, Georgie Crawford, who commented, “International Women’s Day is a time of awareness, appreciation and activism for both the struggles and achievements of generations of women. This year’s theme of embracing equity is a reminder that we can work together to impact positive change and help forge an equal world. I think it’s great that companies like NBI host events like todays. It’s a really positive platform to promote the discussion and support their people.”
Speaking about the NBI event, Corina Zambra, NBI’s Senior Manager for People and Culture, commented, “At National Broadband Ireland, we’re creating a culture where we encourage our people to show their true selves in work, as we know diversity delivers better business outcomes. For us, International Women’s Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and make progress towards a more equitable society, as well as helping our colleagues at NBI to thrive and succeed.”
To coincide with the occasion, NBI also announced their membership of The 30% Club, a global campaign supported by Board Chairs and CEOs committed to achieving better gender balance at leadership levels.
Peter Hendrick, NBI’s CEO commented, “Today, being International Women’s Day, was a very fitting day to explain to our colleagues why NBI have joined The 30% Club. Our membership signals NBI’s commitment to achieving better gender diversity at leadership level, as well as throughout the company. We’ve made progress, but we know there is still work to do. Today gives us a stage to drive further action towards gender equity.”
Meliosa O’Caoimh, Country Chair of The 30% Club said, “We are delighted to welcome NBI as our newest supporter. It is important to us to promote greater gender balance in senior roles across all sectors in Irish Business and NBI is a great example of an organisation driving new skills, and also operating across the full breadth of the country driving change in modern technology.”
